Jute is one of the important natural fibers after cotton in terms of cultivation and usage. Cultivation is dependent on the climate, season, and soil. Almost 85% of the world's jute cultivation is concentrated in the Ganges Delta.

Jute is in great demand due to its cheapness, softness, length, lustre and uniformity of its fiber. It is called the 'brown paper bag' as it is also the most used product in gunny sacks to store rice, wheat, grains, etc.

Jute is one of Bangladesh 's main cash crops. The contribution of the jute sector to the economy of Bangladesh is enormous. In Bangladesh, Jute is a vital sector from economical, agricultural, industrial, and commercial perspectives.
