Mechanical Processing Division

 Introduction to the department


 Mechanical Processing Division of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) is involved with jute mechanical processing.  The division also involved with innovation and development of jute machinery as well as development of diversified jute products. The division consists of three departments. These are -

Ø  Spinning

Ø  Weaving &

Ø  Machinery development and maintenance.

 

Spinning and weaving departments are working for making quality jute yarn and fabric following developed processing technology in the laboratory. Machinery development and maintenance department involved with innovation, development and maintenance of jute/textile machinery. The division has already developed a large number of jute processing technologies and equipment. Most of these are patented by Bangladesh Government.

 

The overall objective of the division:

·         Provide overall support to the Director (Technical) through research planning, review and evaluation.

·         Coordination of departmental research programs to assist in practical application of the results obtained.

·         Study the production of yarn, oven, non-oven and knitted fabrics as per the demand of modern world for use in technical textiles from jute through technology exchange and exchange of views with different organizations.

 

Departmental Information

 Spinning Department:

·         Increase the production of yarn, reduce the production cost and increase the quality by inventing different methods of production for jute yarn.
·         Production of high quality and durable blended yarns and quality testing in combination of jute with acrylic / polyester / rayon / viscose / sheep wool / flax / dhanchia / pineapple fiber / coconut fiber etc.
·         Provide technical services as per the demand of various NGOs, government / non-government organizations / educational institutions etc.
·         Visiting various government / private jute mills / educational institutions to inform them about their own technology and to know their various problems and provide solutions.
·         Determination the physical and mechanical properties of jute yarn.
 
Weaving Department:
 

·         Increase the versatility of jute through research by weaving new types of new fabrics from jute yarn or jute and other natural and synthetic fiber blended yarns.

·         Improve the quality of jute fabric and make it usable by using research and new technology and to test different quality of fabric.

 

 
 
Machinery Development & Maintenance Department:
 

·         Development and innovation of various types of machinery for technical and industrial research of jute.

·         Proper mechanical maintenance of all machinery / lab equipment of technological wing.

Significant success of the division

 

Ø  Production of jute-wool blended yarn.

Ø  Production of light weight and reusable jute bag.

Ø  Jute-cotton union fabric production.

Ø  Production of blanket from jute-wool blended yarn.

Ø  Smell less and economic yarn production with Rafi and Verdure.

Ø  Production of Blankets using blended yarns of jute.

Ø  Invention the methodology of production of jute yarn through Ring and Rotor spinning system.
