Introduction: Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) is the oldest among the research organizations in Bangladesh. Since its establishment, this institute has been doing research on jute and allied fibre crops and promoting the diversified use of jute. Based on weather, temperature, humidity and water availability, jute is cultivated all over Bangladesh except the hilly areas. Scientists of BJRI are doing intensive research to develop new technologies including new variety development, cultivation method, pest management, retting technology, fertilizer management based on area/ variety etc. To disseminate these technologies at the field level, BJRI has established 9 (nine) regional/sub-stations. These nine stations more or less represent the jute-growing areas of Bangladesh. The 9 (nine) regional/sub-stations with their controlled areas are given bellow:

Goals and objectives of the stations |

· To conduct research works for developing breeding lines and implementing research works of different divisions of the agriculture wing.
|
· Breeder seed production and supply to BADC. Besides, producing sufficient amount of TLS seed and supply to farmers fulfill their requirements.
|
|
· To find out the local problem for jute cultivation and to help formulating research work for the agriculture wing of BJRI to solve these problems.
|
|
· Formulation and conduction of training for farmers and field workers of different GOs and NGOs for evaluation, extension of BJRI developed technologies and motivating them to use the technologies.
