1.

Title of the technology: Improved four crop pattern: Potato–Pat shak–Jute–T. Aman

Year of innovation: 2020

2.

Indroduction: The potato-fallow-Jute-T. Aman cropping pattern is cultivated on about 0.028 million hectares of land in Bangladesh. This technology was developed by JFSD through research activities at farmers’ field during 2017 to 2019.

3.

Salient features of the technology:

a) In the northern region, farmers usually cultivated jute after harvesting of potato, and pat shak (jute leafy vegetables) can be easily introduced between these two crops

b) Potato–Pat shak–Jute–T. Aman cropping pattern could yield 25-30% higher gross return than the practice of existing farmers’ pattern

c) This technology was developed by JFSD through research activities at farmers’ field during 2017 to 2019

Suitability of the technology: Potato-Pat shak-Jute-T. Aman cropping pattern is suitable for medium high land in northern part of Bangladesh. From 2017 to 2019, the utility of this technology was verified in Rangpur region.

6.

Economic benefit of the technology and role for livelihood development:

Potato–Pat shak–Jute–T. Aman cropping pattern could yield 20-25% higher gross return than the practice of existing farmers’ pattern. Achievable Marginal Benefit Cost Ratio (MBCR) is 3.13.
