Indroduction: The applicability of this technology was verified in Manikganj region from 2002 to 2004.

 

Salient features of the technology:

a) Red amaranth can easily be included between potato rows.

b) The four-cropped cropping pattern of Potato+Red amaranth-Jute-T. Aman will be introduced in favor of the three-cropped cropping pattern of Potato-Jute-T. Aman.

c) Due to the fact that three of the four crops used in this cropping pattern are cash crops, the farmer receives immediate cash flow which also making a significant net profit.

d) It is possible to earn extra profit in a short period of time especially by planting Red amaranth along with potato crop.

Suitability of the technology: The cropping pattern can be introduced in medium high land of agro-ecological zone 8.

 

Economic benefit of the technology and role for livelihood development: In the improved cropping pattern, the BCR of Potato+Red amaranth, Jute, and T. Aman rice was found to be 1.82, 1.36, and 1.60 respectively, as compared to 1.36, 1.27, and 1.46 in the farmer's own cropping pattern (Potato-Jute-T. Aman).
