Indroduction: Improved crop varieties, quality seed sowing, the application of recommended fertilizers, and timely intercultural operations can increase productivity of the existing cropping pattern.

a) Garlic-Jute-T. Aman pattern can be increased by up to 25–35% more yield under this management.

b) This cropping pattern will increase crop productivity, which will help the farmer financially.

c) Small farmers might be able to use this cropping pattern.

Suitability of the technology:

The rainfed areas of AEZ-8, particularly the medium high land of Manikganj, are suitable for this improved cropping pattern. The utility of this technology was evaluated in farmer fields from 1997 to 2001.

Economic benefit of the technology and role for livelihood development:

In an improved cropping pattern, the rice equivalent yield of garlic, jute, and T. Aman rice was 9.30, 3.88, and 3.52 ton/ha, respectively.
