Name of Technology: Herbicide use technology for weed control in jute field Year of innovation: 2015 |
2. |
Introduction: Weed management is a major cost for jute production. By increasing jute production by using herbicides to suppress jute weeds, it will play an appropriate role in jute exports abroad by meeting the demand of jute in the country. |
3. |
Salient features of the technology: As many as 18 species of weeds occur in jute fields. Some of these weeds are very large and cause a lot of damage. Such as Mutha, Khude Shama, Anguligas, Fuska Begun, Fox Tail etc. A number of more harmful weeds can be controlled through the use of herbicides. • Ethoxy sulfuron and Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl can be applied together to control mutha, small weeds, ungulates, weeds and get high yield at low cost. • Weed management costs and labor hours are reduced through the use of herbicides.

Brief description of technology: The right herbicide should be applied in the jute field at the right time and at the right rate. Suppressed weeds: Mutha (Cyperus rotundus) Chemical name: Ethoxy sulfuron (Sunrice 150WG) is effective if sprayed at the rate of 200 g/ha. At the time of spraying, it should be mixed with water as 50000 l/ha. Suppressed weeds: Khude shama (Echinochloa colonum) Aunguli ghash (Digitaria sanguinalis) Chemical name: Quizalofop-p-ethyl or Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl or Fluazifop-p-butyl. Quezalofop-p-ethyl @ 650ml/ha or Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl @ 650ml/ha or Fluazifop-p-butyl @ 1000ml/ha @ 500ml/ha when the weeds are at the age of 2-3 leaves or within 10-15 days of field sowing. It should be mixed with water and sprayed on the ground in the morning. But care should be taken that the plant does not have any wet condition or excessive heat of the sun. |

Suitability of the Technology: All over the country. |
6. |
Economic benefit of the technology and role for livelihood development: By useing of herbicides increasing the production of jute at low cost (about 40% of the labor cost is spent on weed control) and it will play a significant role in meeting the demand of jute in the country and exporting jute abroad. |
